Beard care is vital especially during the pandemic when face masks have become a major part of our lifestyle. Wearing masks constantly can cause skin rash and irritation especially for those with sensitive skin and a beard. A layer of hair underneath the mask can get very messy and causes skin problems and attract germs.
We are aware of how stepping out with face masks has become a new normal. Apart from the fact that beard hygiene is a must, maintaining beard length is a must as well for the mask to fit rightly. Having said that it is recommended to shave your beard to keep yourself safe during the pandemic.
Here are a few tips to protect the beard from mask:
1. Keep your beard dry:
If your beard is long make sure you dry it well as it may cause dampness making the skin itchy which may also lead to beard dandruff.
2. Wash your mask post wearing it:
It is as simple as that! Mask hygiene needs to be maintained at all times. Clean your beard, wash your mask often or switch to new ones to avoid skin irritation and rashes. Use a breathable cotton mask for a comfortable go. One must prefer disposable masks and later dispose of them properly after use because they are light to handle by the beards. Let your beard breathe to avoid any irritation.
3. Ditch oiling your beard:
Avoid putting on any oil before putting on a mask during this hot and humid weather as it can vet greasy and uncomfortable. The mask can also clog your pores when it comes in contact with the sweat on your skin.
4. Stop touching your beard often:
Keep your hands off your beard. This is the time when you must leave the habit of running your hand through the beard because it may transfer germs and viruses near your mouth by allowing them to settle on the beard. Combing your beard is also important to keep them untackled & doesn’t become uncomfortable.
5. Moisturize:
Keep your beard, as well as skin moisturized as excessive dryness, can cause problems too. If you decide to shave, even then your skin will need extra attention, cleanse and moisturize your face before wearing a mask and exfoliate and soothe it after removing the mask.
If you already have skin conditions then you should use a mild cleanser to keep your beard moisturized and clean. Don’t forget to clean your mask every time you wear it.
