Alumna Shiji M. S. John is currently employed as a Fashion Designer at Seematti. She shares her journey from being a curious novice to accomplishing her dream.

“My journey into fashion stems from a childhood fascination for the fashion stream. From the making, to the way clothes are draped, the fall of the fabric, colours and trends, all of this intrigued me. I found inspiration for design in everything that I came across. When it was time to make the decision, I chose to study fashion hands down. However, I was unsure where to start and how to go about it.

The first step towards my dream started with researching institutes. During this time, I came across JD Institute. I specially chose the Customised course in Fashion and CAD which was convenient for me due to the duration. The course was designed keeping in mind my area of interest and what I envisioned for myself.

JD Institute of Fashion Technology provided me with the platform to develop a new way of thinking and hone my creative skills.  What I learned during my term at JD, was that learning is not conditioned to a structure. Discipline is necessary and consistency is definitely the key to it. The more you learn, the more you want to learn, the more the world becomes interesting to you and discovering it becomes fun. Your vision need not be a one-track course. One has to expand their thoughts and think beyond the set boundaries. You have to take a chance and step out of your comfort zone.”
