Basalt: A Tribute to Kailash Temple
Basalt was designed by Manoj S and Priya Rauniyar, students of BSc. in Fashion and Apparel Design at JD School of Design powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru for JD Design Awards 2023. The collection paid tribute to the Kailash Temple.
The Kailash Temple is a standalone, multi-storeyed temple complex that is known to resemble the abode of Lord Shiva. Basalt is a megalith collection that is carved from a rock cliff face. It is regarded as one of the most remarkable cave temples in the world due to its size, architecture, and sculptural treatment. According to legend, Shiva was erected on Mount Kailash by the Rashtrakuta Dynasty. India’s architectural structures prominently reflect its history, culture, legacy, and religion. One such magnificent structure is the Kailash Temple, which may be found in the well-known Ellora Caves of Aurangabad, Maharashtra. We are creating the quilting technique for the clothing in order to incorporate the philosophy of touch into the garments. The collection explores the Kailash Temple, which is believed by us is the Eighth wonder of the world due to its century-old construction and fascinating past. The fact that the entire temple is carved out of a single rock and is situated on an inclining mountain demonstrates the unsolved nature of the temple’s construction mystery. So, in order to demonstrate that there is still untapped power in knowing one’s heritage, the young fashion designers set out to display their collection by incorporating designs from the temple into the clothing.
The collection won Experimental Collection Award.
