Aundentia: A Tribute to Marilyn Monroe
Aundentia was designed by Nandita Ruth Ravichander and Dhanalakshmi H B, students of BSc. in Fashion and Apparel Design at JD School of Design powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology for JD Design Awards 2023. The collection paid tribute to Marilyn Monroe.
Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, California, was an iconic American actress, model, and singer. In her early years, Monroe faced a challenging childhood marked by foster care and instability. However, her beauty and talent propelled her towards stardom. She signed her first film contract in 1946, gradually gaining recognition for her sensual appeal and comedic timing. With memorable roles in films like “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” (1953) and “The Seven Year Itch” (1955), Monroe became a symbol of Hollywood glamour and sex appeal, captivating audiences worldwide. Her tragic death in 1962 at the age of 36 solidified her status as an enduring cultural icon.
The young fashion designers were seeking a design that drew inspiration from the iconic figure of Marilyn Monroe, capturing her timeless elegance and highlighting the courage she exhibited in her life and career. The garment should embody Monroe’s captivating charm while incorporating bold and daring elements that reflect her audacity and determination. The objective is to create a garment that pays homage to Marilyn Monroe and showcases her remarkable spirit of courage. The design should embrace Monroe’s classic style, incorporating modern elements that represent her fearlessness and ability to challenge societal norms.
