Asian Paints at JD Institute: A seminar on colour theory
Interior design is a process of shaping the experience of the entire space, through surface treatment and manipulation of spatial volume. The field covers all aspects of environmental psychology, architecture and product design in addition to traditional decoration. When designing a space, it is necessary to think of the interior as a totality. A harmony of theme and style should be co-ordinated which is achieved with the well-considered use of colour. To make jediiians understand the role of colours in interior spaces a seminar was organized at JD Institute of Fashion Technology in association with Asian Paints.
The Bsc Interior Design Course Students received an extensive understanding regarding organized methodology and advance planning of colours which can lead to the successful use of it. Mr Ajay Subramanian and Mr Shivam from the design team of Asian Paints covered a wide range of topics related to paints like painting process, different types of wall coverings, types and composition of paints, surface evaluation and preparation, different designs and textures in paints etc. In addition to this, students were made familiar with how to interact with clients and how to suggest the right products to them.
Before you derive a colour scheme for any space, it is very important to inquire, the use of the space, the needs and attitudes and also the mood and age of the person. Thus students were briefed about the psychological aspects of colour and how a colour is associated and linked to design. Apart from it, colour schemes may vary for spaces in hot and bright climate to cold and dull weather, in specific cultural and social settings, in different physical and geographical location. Knowing these aspects gives a deeper understanding to students about each element of design.
The talk ended with an interactive question and answer round between the Asian paints team and students which lead to an informative and thrilling atmosphere. Here, the Interior design programme students are exposed to wide industry exposure and networking which not only strengthens their knowledge but also builds their acumen.
