Art of Fashion Draping in Fashion designing | JD Institute
Draping is an art which is an important form of design. When the structure is draped with a garment it should express fluidity, fall and fold. And the process of pinning and positioning fabric on a dress plays a very important role to develop the advance garment design. At the beginning of any design process, the fashion designer has two ways of creating a garment: either one can use a design sketch as a basis or they can play with the way a fabric falls.
Usually, Fashion draping and fitting are done with muslin, it is an unbleached, loosely woven cotton, it is also absolutely inexpensive. The fabric helps to resolve any design and fitting issues for draping before cutting the pattern in the real fabric. However, choosing the type of muslin is very important to drape the fabric which has similar drape characteristics and which falls and folds in the same way as the real fabric of the finished garment. If you want to do fashion draping and fitting perfectly, you need to master the art of form which is inclusive of any fashion design courses.
For many years the art of draping continues, it’s there from the ancient world where people wore kalasiris, robe, chiton etc. The art is still continued with modern twist and styles to give a variation in it. Today Draping is taught as an independent subject in all the fashion design institutes. In which JD Institute is one of the top fashion designing institute, in India which encourages the talent of young creative minds and provides the necessary training required for all the fashion designing programs.
The students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology – Bangalore, Diploma in fashion designing Batch of April’18 turned their vivid imagination of draping into a reality by designing and converting into beautiful Muslin drapes. The students started at the beginning of the process, by taping the dummy and quickly moved onto draping on the mannequin to create bodies and different skirt styles. They explored various flows and styles, giving an Avante guarde look to it. It was a very valuable and engaging experience for Jediiians who presented their imagination into reality.
