Anaswara B S, a Diploma student of Fashion Design Curated a collection of Anantharam, a compelling womenswear Pret-a-Porter collection for Autumn/Winter 2024 that drew inspirations from Kamala Das’s tragic autobiography “My Story.” This party wear collection focuses deeply into the complexity of human life, tackling the never-ending search for love, the yearning for artistic independence, the agony of unsatisfied sexual urges, and the terrible loneliness that frequently haunts one’s life. Each design in “Anantharam” reflects the numerous problems that humans encounter in their search for purpose and pleasure. The collection delves into topics such as longing, disillusionment, and the pursuit of authenticity, encouraging wearers to confront the complexities of their own human experiences. By providing clothing reflecting these fundamental struggles, , “Anantharam” unveils an artistic narrative of the pursuit for self-awareness. The designs combine flowy bottom portions to indicate happy moments with fitted upper parts to portray the harsh facts of life. The collection incorporates pieces of Kamala Das’s life story through the use of draping techniques, which pays respect to her traditional fashion choices. The contrast between struggle and liberation is emphasized by this combination of structure and fluidity, reflecting the dual nature of the human experience. Beyond trends, “Anantharam” presents a thought-provoking story that encourages a better comprehension of the human condition. It reminds us that true contentment frequently comes from striking a balance between our dreams and reality. It honors the unwavering search for meaning and the complexity that define our existence.
The “Anantharam” collection enhances its story of human experience and emotional depth with well chosen textiles and colors. The main fabrics are nylon organza and chinon chiffon, each of which represents a distinct facet of the collection’s idea. Nylon organza, with its sheer quality, portrays the imaginary world and the dreamlike escape from reality, while chinon chiffon, with its rough texture, reflects the unfulfilled truth.
The color scheme, which resonates with the virtual reality motif, consists of black, blue, and beetroot purple. Black denotes the harsh, unsatisfied reality, beetroot purple depicts the happy world, and blue indicates boldness and serenity. Together, these textiles and hues make a beautiful blend that captures the collection’s examination of the human condition and vividly conveys the extremes of loneliness, longing, and self-discovery.
