A FIRST HAND INSIGHT ABOUT PRODUCTION, SPINNING AND WEAVING

JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Cochin organised an industrial visit for students from the Fashion Design and Interior Design on 13th December 2019 to Extraweave Pvt. Ltd., Central Coir Research Institute, and Komalapuram Spinning and Weaving Mill.

The first visit commenced at Extraweave Pvt. Ltd., which turns out flat-woven rugs, carpeting and handloom products. On their arrival students were greeted by the personnel of the company, In-Charge of Production received the students and faculty. Before the tour, the students and faculty were given a brief introduction about the organisation. During the visit, they received an opportunity to look at the state of the art manufacturing facility with spinning equipments, dyeing machine, coating machine, weaving and finishing machineries. EWPL is a fine blend of technological advantage, superior quality, and design innovations which has made it one of the preferred suppliers for buyers across the globe.

A FIRST HAND INSIGHT ABOUT PRODUCTION, SPIINING AND WEAVINGThe next visit was to the Coir Board Museum – Central Coir Research Institute which provides an insight into the technological advancements and progress of the Coir Sector since its inception to this day. The museum also showcases the traditional and modern development of the industry, including retting and fibre extraction, advent of mechanisation in coir sector etc. The students were also shows a short video that provides information about the origins, growth and progress alongwith the research and development process which has served the industry i good stead.

The last visit of the day was to Industry, Komalapuram Spinning and Weaving Mill, where the Production Head guided the students and faculty to understand the spinning process and production of cotton and polycotton.

The industrial visit was informative, interesting and insightful. The students of Fashion Designing, learnt about natural fibres, broadloom weaving, spinning process and the production flow in the manufacturing industry. On the other hand, the students of interior design learnt about the application of coir and sisal fibres.
