Shrijal Sanjiv Talkar, a student of the Diploma in Interior Design, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Goa, was given the Most Innovative Design Solution Award and the display was named Revamping & Refurbing. As the theme was future fiction, he has made a museum futuristic by adding touch screen panels on both sides of golden wooden frames, giving it an old painting kind of rustic look.
“Revamping” refers to the process of making significant changes or improvements to the design, layout, and overall aesthetic of a space. “Refurbishing” refers to the process of renovating, redecorating, or updating the appearance and functionality of a space. The fort was constructed in 1551 by the Portuguese viceroy, Dom Afonso de Noronha. It was strategically positioned on the northern bank of the Mandovi River to protect the narrowest point of the river’s entrance.
Shrijal has designed the long hall museum of Reis Magos Fort in such a way that it is interactive and interesting for all age group people who visit it. Automatic retractable seating has been provided in between for people to seat and watch the paintings or video clips which will be played on the screen panels that have been placed on both the sides of the wall. Keeping in mind the history of Reis Magos Fort the two prison cells have been kept empty for their original view.

Having keen interest in historical places such as forts, palaces etc, Shrijal has chosen Reis Magos Fort due to its interesting colonial history and beauty as his inspiration for the JD Design Awards. The museum space gives my ideas the perfect chance to blend in and the fort being opposite to the sea gives it beautiful panoramic views. The space just besides the two cells has been used as a 3D puzzle room, where the hall has 3D puzzles that can be played with. Two big TV screens have been provided on both sides of the wall, besides the main entrance to the hall. They have 3 sets of headphones, through which they can listen to the history of the fort.
