Collection Name: De Novo
Students Names: Bhakti Acharya
The collection titled “De Novo” meaning new beginning brings an all new life to the concept of Mashru weaving. Mashru weaving is an age-old tradition famous in Gujarat, which makes use of silk yarn for the warp and cotton yarn for the weft. With the diminishing popularity of the Mashru weave, the designer has come up with an innovative and sustainable solution to promote this dying craft by using soybean yarn instead of silk yarn and organic cotton yarn. The collection makes use of a Japanese pattern making method called Transformational Reconstruction invented by designer Shingo Sato. Taking Op Art as inspiration, the lines in the art form have been translated on to the garment in the form of complex pleats using Transformational Reconstruction. The collection comprises of contemporary fitted silhouettes in the colours maroon, teal, burnt cienna and greyish mauve. The collection is presented by Bhakti Acharya from B.Sc batch.
