DESIGN THINKING & PROCESS DISPLAY BY DIPLOMA IN JEWELLERY DESIGN BATCH

The students of Diploma in Jewellery Design – July 2019 Batch, mentored by Ms. Zohara Moorthy, showcased their design sensibilities as part of a display based on their module Design Thinking And Process on 13^th September 2019.

The display presented an insight into the students’ representation of the Design Thinking And Process module. The creative presentation showcased various elements covered during the module like – Compositions are of two types – flat; wherein the students had to create flat lay composition of brooch, earrings or necklace. Whereas, 3D composition was represented through either abstracts or defined shapes like coral reefs, earrings stand etc. Shading, sketching, perspective and basic shapes helped to understand the placement of the jewellery pieces, along with the various elements of the design. Letter forms used in expressive typography can be used to create logos or even while designing jewellery. Colour theory were represented through Agamographs which were created to highlight the three basic colour types found in the colour wheel – Primary, Secondary and Tertiary.

The students first created a grading board to create the right shade for the agamograph. They then used their pictures and coloured it with the three colour types, which was then used to create the agamograph. Apart from the work that centred on the covered topics, the students were asked to create pieces of jewellery based on two different concepts – nature and geometrical shapes. They used Form transitions to create geometric design which was created by referring to form transitions, which helps to concentrate on one or a couple of elements of a structure. Whereas motifs for nature inspired design was based on the concept of negative space. The designs reflected the Jewellery trends of 2020.

Floral designs were quite dominant in the display, however few students also concentrated on birds especially ducks and kingfisher. The materials used by the students were wire, clay, stones, beads, glass bangles, feather, thread, pearls, toothpicks, aluminium chain etc.

The management team represented by Mr. Pramod Adhikari, Mentor – JD; Ms. Suma Satish, Academics In-charge – South; Dr. Anusuya K., Head of Fashion Department were present at the display wherein they interacted with the students, viewed their display and provided them with feedback.
