Work-from-home, in an idealistic world seems very aspirational. The choice to move out is a thrill in itself that we seek on every given day. However, the forced lockdown has provided us with the opportunity albeit grudgingly. Working from home also comes with its fair share challenges especially when there isn’t any professional set-up. One can turn into one’s space into a great their work sanctuary to provide the much needed motivation.
Not everyone has dedicated workspace in their homes, a closet, a corner of living room or a stair landing. Whichever space one chooses as a temporary office sanctuary during this time of the lockdown, here are few tips to decorate it to provide practicality, comfort and most importantly motivation.
Identify a designated place for office work
A space needs to be identified that can set it apart from the rest of the house, no matter how small it is. This helps to create boundaries.
Say no to clutter
One may be home, but a cluttered work are will prevent from concentrating on work. Hence, it is important to clear the area before setting up the work station.
Make work space interesting
If you are going to spend a lot of time in your new work space, then make it interesting with paintings, quotes, house plants, décor, stationery etc.
Lighting
Lighting is an essential factor to be taken care in a work space setup. Maximising natural daylight or changing the light will help productivity and preparing for work.
Whiteboard
You need not go out and buy one or order online, a simple chart paper or plain paper will work fine. Write down daily to-do list and keep it at an eye’s length to be reminded of work effectively.
Comfortable seat
Do not sit on a surface that will make you slump or cause discomfort. A chair at home plopped with cushions to provide back support will work just fine.
Work-from-home would have been a welcome break from the daily commute to the office, however the extension of the lockdown and the length of time can easily make people stressful and it is essential to make the work space at home as effective as possible. However, since the unplanned declaration of work from home may not provide everyone sufficient time to be completely prepared, hence, one needs to make the maximum use of the readily available resources.
